Our school goal last month was Being Responsible. We discussed with our students about Responsibility and how they can show responsibility. You can see below the meaning of Responsibility and some ways your child can show he/she is responsible. You can also see an activity we’ve done to be aware of our daily responsibilities. I will ask our students to take their work home so you can post it on the fridge or on their bedroom door 🙂
What is responsibility?
- Being accountable for what you do, for your actions and behavior.
- Doing the right thing at the right time, so others can trust and depend on you.
*What are ways you can show responsibility?
- Complete your homework and chores on time without being reminded.
- Follow through on your commitments, even when you don’t feel like it.
- Accept responsibility for your mistakes and learn from them. Don’t make excuses or blame others.
- Take care of your things and those of other people. Return items you borrow.
- Find out what needs to be done and do it.
- Make wise choices, such as choosing to eat healthy foods and wearing a helmet.
- Always do your very best. Others are counting on you!
Dear parents,
We are using an exciting reading website! Raz-Kids delivers hundreds of interactive, leveled eBooks spanning 27 levels. Each student has his/her own Student Portal and knows my Login Password.
We’ve had two sessions to help them understand how to use their Student Portal and complete their Reading Assignments. I will ask them to read one book and take a quiz every weekday.
I’d like to ask you to encourage them to use all these online tools we are providing. Interactive learning is very positive for their learning progress and confidence.

In Grade 3, students develop understanding of musical concepts through participation in various musical experiences (e.g., listening, singing, moving, simple instrumental playing, playing with musical manipulatives).
By the end of Grade 3, students will:
Apply the creative process to create and perform music for a variety of purposes, using the elements and techniques of music;
to communicate their feelings, ideas and understandings in response to a variety of music and musical experiences; demonstrate an understanding of a variety of musical genres and styles from the past and present, and their social and/or community contexts.
The Creative Process comprises the following stages:
Challenging and inspiring
Imagining and generating
Planning and focusing
Exploring and experimenting

ICT plays an important role in our school, not only during ICT lessons but in all our lessons, from Primary to Secondary. Using ICT in teaching-learning processes has proved to be highly beneficial for encouraging students to learn and participate in all subjects.
Last Thursday, I attended our boys’ ICT lesson with Mr. Rob and I saw them enjoying every part of the lesson while creating their own designs. They are using TUX PAINT. Tux Paint is used in schools around the world as a computer literacy drawing activity. It combines an easy-to-use interface, fun sound effects, and an encouraging cartoon mascot who guides children as they use the program.
You can download Tux Paint in your child’s computer so he/she can practice at home! Click here
Some interesting facts about the advantages of Using ICT at school:
It has been proved that new technologies have lots of benefits on the students.
ICT allow for a higher quality lessons through collaboration with teachers in planning and preparing resources (Ofsted, 2002). Students learn new skills: analytical, including improvements in reading comprehension (Lewin et al, 2000). ICT also develop some writing skills: spelling, grammar, punctuation, editing and re-drafting (Lewin et al, 2000). Still new technologies encourage independent and active learning, and students’ responsibility for their own learning (Passey, 1999) ICT proves that students who used educational technology felt more successful in school they are more motivated to learn more and have increased self- confidence and self-esteem. It is also confirmed that many students found learning in a technology-enhanced setting more stimulating and much better than in a traditional classroom environment (Pedretti and Mayer-Smith 1998).
HAVE A GOOD DAY 😉
Thank you for your comments and participation

We are learning about Map Skills in Social Studies. Working with children is amazing for different reasons; seeing how they use their creativity is one of them! They see the world from a different perspective. I just gave them some markers and here are the results… Their Treasure Island Map (with a compass rose, an invisible bridge, a buried treasure, a volcano, a treasure cave… all you can imagine on a Secret Island)

Sport and physical education is fundamental to the early development of children and the skills learned during play, physical education and sport contribute to the holistic development of young people. Through participation in sport and physical education, they learn about the importance of key values such as:
honesty,
teamwork,
fair play,
respect for themselves and others, and
adherence to rules.
At East-West we highly encourage these values and they are passed on to our students by our enthusiastic P.E. teachers and coaches.
Last Friday I attended our students’ P.E. lesson and I was so gratified to see them learning while having so much fun! All of them were participating, supporting each other and contributing to the game. I thought it would be a good idea to share some photos so you can see your child enjoying his/her P.E. lesson at East-West 🙂
Do you know what your child’s favourite subject is? Well… most of them agree on P.E. being their favourite subject because it’s fun and it makes you feel healthy and stronger!
Is there any subject in particular you would like to see your child participating in? If so, please, let us know! And we will write about it and share some photos in our next post 🙂
Thank you for following us and sharing your ideas and comments.

What is a Diamante Poem? A Diamante Poem is a poem in the shape of a diamond. Each line uses specific types of words, like adjectives and -ing verbs. It does not have to rhyme!
Our students created some great Diamante Poems last week and I’m very happy to show you some examples. Because we are reading Charlotte’s Web, we first did contrast poems between Country & City:
